Neuro-Feedback

At Exercise-Intelligence we look at optimal human movement through a Bio-Psycho-Social lens. Working on cognitive issues such as reframing physical threats or capabilities, or improving stress response capacity can have a significant positive impact on pain and performance.

In 2021 we were part of the initial pilot study between Neuropeak and Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT), which examined the correlation between receiving MAT treatment and Heart Rate Variability (HRV). HRV is a well established metric that indicates the level of stress and recovery in an individual. You can read about the results of that study here: https://muscleactivation.com/neuropeak-ntel-belt/.

We are partnered with Neuropeak, the industry leader in Neurofeedback training, to offer Neurofeedback, & Heart Rate Variability training to all of our clients. If you are interested in increasing cognitive focus and reducing stress by training brain wave states, find out more at www.neuropeakpro.com.

Background:

The connection between these two companies originated as Greg Roskopf was personally trying to recover from a brain injury that he experienced in February 2017. Kyle Shanahan, a personal friend of Greg’s and the present head coach of the San Francisco 49ers connected Greg to Neuropeak Pro in order to see if there would be any benefit to Greg as he was overcoming his own challenges.

Greg began working with Neuropeak Pro, implementing their neurofeedback training. Greg began to see some improvement in his symptoms and was intrigued by how the brain wave activity could be monitored at any given time. In Greg’s experience, his neurological symptoms would increase when his body was stressed, as he was trying to get back to a normal work schedule. Greg also noticed that when he would get treated through MAT, his symptoms would subside. Since he was able to monitor brain activity using Neuropeak Pro’s measurement systems, he wanted to see if MAT had any correlation with brainwave activity. Amazingly, when Greg was experiencing symptoms relating to his head injury, his brain wave activity would decline. Then immediately following a MAT treatment it was found that his brainwave activity would normalize and return to optimal levels. Greg shared these results with Neuropeak Pro, coming to the conclusion that by improving neuromuscular function, you could have a positive impact on brain function!

Neuropeak Pro was able to monitor these changes watching Greg’s brain activity increase in ways they have never seen before. Together they began to look deeper into the relationship of MAT Sessions combined with Neuropeak Pro neurofeedback training sessions and it was very intriguing to see the amazing results that could be created at the brain level. The data validated the positive relationship between the autonomic nervous system and the neuromuscular system. This was Neuropeak Pro’s first representation of how powerful the results of neurofeedback could be impacted by improving neuromuscular function.
